Accessibility and inclusion strategy
I led the creation of DEWR’s first Digital Inclusion Strategy, a foundational document designed to guide the department’s ongoing commitment to delivering equitable, accessible, and inclusive digital services for all Australians regardless of age, background, ability, or circumstance.
This was my original concept, developed in close collaboration with a junior service designer, whom I mentored throughout the process. Together, we co-authored the strategy with input from cross-agency partners including the Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) and the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). The strategy articulates a clear vision: that inclusive design is not a ‘nice to have’, but a responsibility embedded in every stage of digital service delivery.
The strategy is now a cornerstone document across #TeamDEWR empowering staff to advocate for inclusion, make informed design decisions, and contribute meaningfully to closing the digital divide, including with our First Nations communities. It’s also a long-term commitment to listening, learning, and evolving as the digital needs of our community grow and change.
Inclusion is for all citizens
